- Confirm your registration is current and onboard.
- Check life jackets (correct sizes, good condition) and keep them accessible.
- Test horn/whistle and navigation lights.
- Verify fire extinguisher charge and expiration date.
- Restock first-aid kit, throwable device, and basic tools.
- Inspect battery terminals for corrosion and tighten connections.
- Charge and load-test batteries; replace weak ones before the season starts.
- Test bilge pump, blower, and all switches.
- Power up electronics (VHF, chartplotter, depth finder) and update software if needed.
- Look for cracked fuel lines, loose clamps, and fuel odors.
- Replace the fuel/water separator (and carry a spare if you can).
- Check oil level, coolant (if applicable), and inspect belts/hoses.
- Inspect the prop for dings and ensure the prop nut is secure.
- Start the engine on the trailer or at the dock and confirm a strong water stream.
- Inspect the hull for damage and check through-hulls and seacocks.
- Confirm the drain plug is present and the gasket is in good shape.
- Check trailer tires, bearings, lights, winch strap, and safety chains.
- Replace worn dock lines and fenders before they fail.

- Top off fuel and check weather and wind before you launch.
- Share your float plan with someone on shore.
- Keep your phone charged and store it in a dry case.
